821 WISPINGTON HORSE PLOUGHING MATCH
Wispington (nr Horncastle) 1975
13.25 min Colour Super 8mm Silent
Plenty of attractive but unedited footage of ploughing with single horses and pairs, their harnesses decorated with the traditional brasses. After the match there are Morris Dancers and the horses are paraded past the spectators.
822 LINCOLNSHIRE SCENES
Lincolnshire (Northern) 1970s
80 min (approx) Colour Super 8mm Silent
Delightful footage of energetic piglets cavorting inside a barn. [1.75 min] The remainder is a reserve collection of landscape and other scenes too diverse to be catalogued but worth reviewing if appropriate fillers are sought.
823 WAINFLEET QUINCENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
18 min Colour & B/W Std 8mm Silent
On the Saturday afternoon, a procession of decorated floats makes its way to the Market Place, where large crowds have assembled and speeches are made to commemorate the granting of the town’s charter in 1458. In the evening there is a huge bonfire and a barbecue with slices cut from a whole roast pig. A firework display rounds off the day. On the Sunday we visit an exhibition of bygones at Magdalen School, where the star exhibits include some historic posters and a collection of old handcuffs and police truncheons. We also see a large congregation outside the church after morning service, and even if there is no one left to remember them, the way they are dressed is full of interest.
[Note: The evening events and the exhibition were filmed in B/W because at this time colour film required more light than was available late in the day or indoors.]
824 WAINFLEET & CROFT SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
8 min Colour Std 8mm Silent
As in the 1958 film there is a procession of decorated floats and a Bygones exhibition at Magdalen School, but the floats look somewhat more ambitious, and the exhibition layout is much more sophisticated this time.
825 STEEPING SADDLE CLUB
Wainfleet District 1981
6.25 min Colour Std 8mm Silent
Children and young teenagers on horseback jump over very low practice fences, and then over slightly higher ones. A number then jump in pairs, riding side by side holding a baton between them. The presence of spectators and the awarding of rosettes indicate that this was a beginners’ gymkhana rather that merely a practice session.
826 WAINFLEET ROYAL WEDDING CELEBRATIONS
6.5 min Colour Std 8mm Silent
A striking contrast with the 1958 and 1977 events. The Market Place is the venue for a whole range of young children’s games: tricycle races, egg and spoon races, flower pot races, etc, and finally a mass of children dancing (presumably to pop music) in a wide variety of styles and with varying degrees of energy and confidence. Though it is only four years since the Jubilee, the style of dress of both children and adults is markedly different from that seen at the earlier event.
827 SALOON CAR GYMKHANA
3.25 min Colour Super 8mm Silent
Members of the East Elloe Motor Club compete at driving their cars through an obstacle course set out in Spalding’s Winfrey Avenue Car Park. At this time, neither Holland Market nor the large shops to the east of Winfrey Avenue had yet been built, and the numerous little shops and kiosks between Swan Street and the Halley-Stewart field were still in place.
828 CINE RAMBLINGS
12 min B/W & Colour 16mm Silent
Members of a camera club on outings to various parts of Lincolnshire. A curious mixture of dull views and fascinating details such as a car breakdown with the bonnet lid open and three men struggling to re-start the engine.. Places visited include Welton le Wold, Biscathorpe, the open air swimming pool at Woodhall, Bishopbridge, Stow, Kirkby on Bain, Walesby Woods, Well, and the Woodman’s Cottage at Bag Enderby.
829 SPALDING TULIP PARADE
2 min Colour Standard 8mm Silent
Brief but well-shot coverage of what was only the second Parade in the event’s long history, with the format still experimental and not yet fully developed.
