Good air-to-air shots as the ‘City of Lincoln’ flies from Coningsby to Scampton.  It is then seen landing there and a ceremony takes place, (possibly to mark the installation of another Lancaster as Gate Guardian.)

Despite rain and mist, a group in colourful costumes re-enact a medieval tournament, with jousting, quintain, and hand to hand combat on foot, watched by a shivering audience from beneath their umbrellas.  On a fine day, it would have been terrific.

‘Exercise Ermine’ at Ermine Crescent, Lincoln.  Lots of fire service/rescue vehicles and personnel, ‘victims’ being carried away to ambulance, etc.  The scene then changes to Lincoln Fire Station, where a small boy in fireman’s kit is given (with due caution) some hands on experience with various pieces of equipment.

Cracked and crumbling stonework, leaking roof, dangerous wiring, and damaged glass tell a sorry tale.  Useful illustrations of the urgent need for restoration.

Scenes on board the plane before take off, followed by take off and several parachute descents, but no one is seen actually jumping out of the plane.

Note: An intermittent technical fault limits the usefulness of some scenes

Several contingents of cubs, etc, leave Lincoln Cathedral and walk through nearby streets.  Useful for contemporary costume, notably the astonishingly brief shorts worn by some of the boys.

559  WELTON OIL GATHERING CENTRE OPENED

The Energy Minister, Alick Buchanan-Smith, opens this newly completed oil extraction facility built jointly by B.P. and Gas Council Exploration.  Masses of pipes everywhere, and men in overalls and hard hats.  Also seen are small specimen flasks of the crude oil extracted, and the tankers which took the oil by rail to South Humberside for refining.

The opening of this new leisure facility near Newark Show Ground.  An adult party has first go on the karts, then it is the children’s turn.
