441 TEALBY ROYAL JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
Tealby 1977
2.5 min Colour Silent 16mm
Shops in the village are decorated with bunting, but few people seem to be about. The children’s Sports begin under threatening skies and end with everyone sheltering from the downpour. Some nice touches, such as a Union Jack headscarf.

442 NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE SCENES
Various late 1970s/early 80s
30 min Colour Silent 16mm
Compiled from out-takes and superfluous material shot for various productions. Mostly attractive rural or landscape scenes, spectacular skies, etc., but there is also a pond full of mating frogs. A useful source of title backgrounds, fillers, etc.

443 PADDLE STEAMER
Humber, New Holland c1973
17 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm
The paddle-steamer ferry service soon to be rendered obsolete by the Humber Bridge. Construction work on the bridge is visible in the background. (See also No 444.)

444 THE CROSSING
Humber, New Holland c1973
11 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm
A story film featuring the Humber paddle-steamers and clearly shot in parallel with No 443. The documentary material matches and supplements that in the companion film, so that the two can advantageously be combined and intercut.

445 FARMING AT BRAUNCEWELL MANOR
Sleaford 1975-9
70 min Colour Silent Super 8mm
As well as typical farming scenes of the period, there are interesting shots of vintage tractors at a ploughing match, sheep shearing and dipping, righting an overturned tractor, a dust storm, the destruction of hedgerows, and the delivery of a new tractor.

446 BABY’S BATHTIME
Rochdale 1936
2 min B/W Silent Std 8mm
A young girl feeds her baby cousin. The baby is then given a bath on the kitchen table. This item provides an interesting comparison with No 241.

Note: Though the film was taken in Rochdale, the baby would later become a Lincolnshire farmer’s wife.

447 MISCELLANEOUS FARMING SCENES
Gosberton Clough & Gipsey Bridge 1956-9
18 min Colour Silent Std 8mm
Potatoes are taken from a clamp and bagged; stooks are collected by horse and cart, and built into a stack; a sow looks after her piglets; there is crop-spraying by helicopter, and harvesting using both combine and reaper/binder.

448 STEAM RALLY
Unknown location late 1950s?
4 min Colour Silent Std 8mm Research only
Various steam vehicles are put through their paces.

449 WILD WING
Peakirk 1966
8.25 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm
A visit to the Wildfowl Refuge at Peakirk. Useful early footage, with various general views, and some medium close-ups of a number of different species, but there is little to capture the imagination of the non-enthusiast.

Note: See also Peakirk section of 414, which is in many respects superior.

450 A LINCOLNSHIRE FARM
Ancaster 1969
15.5 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm
Typical scenes round the year at Willoughby Heath Farm

451 KESTEVEN WATER BOARD
Saltersford 1969
8.5 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm
Water from the source at Stoke Rochford is pumped to Saltersford where it is seen being filtered and chlorinated. There are many exterior and interior views of the plant, but an attempt to add life to the somewhat static subject matter has produced a restless and rather uninformative result.

452 ANCASTER PEOPLE
Ancaster c1967
17 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm ‘Scope
An earlier version of No 413, though without the historical aspects. In some cases, notably the stone quarry, sand pit and Post Office, the coverage in this version is actually more thorough. However, the use of an anamorphic widescreen format makes the material difficult to intercut with other footage.

453 BACK TO STEAM
Welby (nr Grantham) c1965
4 min Colour Sound* Std 8mm
Steam ploughing in progress on a working farm, not a specially staged demonstration. The sound track includes comments by the operators in answer to questions by the film-maker.

A companion piece to No 432. An exploration of colour, light, and texture, using big close-ups of various natural objects from the City & County Museum such as crystals and other lapidary specimens, a bird’s skull, a sea urchin shell, etc.

456 BOTTESFORD
Bottesford c 1972
7.5 min Colour Silent 16mm
Attractive old buildings and village scenes, but with little movement and hardly any people.

457 KEN BLANCHARD, WROUGHT-IRON SMITH
Bassingham 1978
10.5 min Colour Mute* 16mm
A rural craftsman at work. He is first seen repairing a piece of modern agricultural machinery with power tools and an electric arc welder. Then, at his traditional forge, he shapes scrolls and finials for use in decorative items such as fire baskets and wrought iron gates.

459 ROADS FOR INDUSTRY
Various 1979/80

* Note: A sound track is believed to have existed but is not at present held by the Archive.
